This book was written to highlight several important things are often missed.

1. Jesus gave us the Lord’s Prayer as a PATTERN TO FOLLOW as well as a prayer to say.

2. The 12 or so phrases of the pattern/prayer fall into 3 categories. PRAISE, PRAYER, and PENITENCE.

3. Using the Lord’s Prayer as a PATTERN is a liberating way of deepening our prayer.  It encourages us not only to use our own words, guided by the familiar cadences of the Lord’s Prayer, but also to gather resources from the Bible, Hymn Books, etc. to help us follow that pattern.

The first edition of the book has been well received and its use has led to some minor improvements in this second edition.  Also included in this new edition is information about Lord’s Prayer Beads (12 beads in 4 sections with a Cross in the middle), and how to use them in your own prayers  following the pattern that Jesus taught us to use.  Click on “Beads” in the menu above for more information.

In “The Everyday Use of the Lord’s Prayer” you will find short chapters on PRAISE, PRAYER, PENITENCE and FINAL PRAISE.  Then there are 31 days of material to help in your praise. For each day there are 3 Bible passages. and each has been rewritten (where necessary) in a personal “you” form.  The first passage is speaks to  “Our Father in heaven”  in words of PRAISE. The 2nd and 3rd passages are addressed to Jesus, through whom we pray, and the Holy Spirit who helps us to pray.

Then there are 7 days of material for PRAYER, PENITENCE AND FINAL PRAISE.

The book is published as a Paperback and also in a Format that can be slipped into an A5 Ring Binder. It can then be used as a prayer diary/resource into which you can add material that has proved helpful in your own prayer.

Good Bookstall Guide Review at : www.thegoodbookstall.org.uk

This book is a lot better than it looks at first glance. I found it a very useful and helpful little handbook. It focuses on the Lord's Prayer, discussing the different parts of the Prayer and how we can use them to shape our prayer life. I found it easy to read and it gave me some things to think about. The book also contains a set of readings and prayers and hymns to use for times of prayer and reflection and these were well-chosen and helpful. Overall this was a much better book than I had expected and would be very useful for quiet prayer times for new Christians or for those who wish to inject a little more life into their prayers.  Reviewer: Helen Hancox (19/07/07)
